Morellia specimen

I'm fairly sure this fly is a Morellia. I've not found a muscid like it before, and it is the wing venation that convinces me it's probably this. It was in the woods just north of London, on farmland. We have two UK species the checklist says, M. aenescens and hortorum. If the genus is correct, is there something external I can check on this specimen to decide which of the two it is? thanks, Jeremy jeremyr attached the following image: [90.09Kb] |

M. aenescens as a strong pv on fore tbia (I think yours has). For other species, the specimen is needed as some invisible details from a picture are necessary for the identification.

The apparent pv appears detached from the leg and may be a hair on the leaf surface. |
