Location: Chongwe district, Lusaka province, Zambia. Habitat: Shaded pond heavily populated with Nile Cabbage. Date 21/02/2013 - 26/02/2013. size - 8-10mm. A similar fly, photographed in Kafue National Park back in 2011, was identified by Jan Willem as Diasemopsis (or Chaetodiopsis) meigenii, in this post: http://www.dipter...d_id=44508 Might this be the same? [Edit: - it is the same. Thanks again, Hans Feijen and Jan Willem] Will van Niekerk attached the following image: ![]() [56.06Kb] Edited by Will van Niekerk on 27-04-2013 12:25 |

Hello Will, Hans Feijen, a specialist in Diopsidae, told me that this is a specimen of Diasemopsis (or Chaetodiopsis) meigenii. Probably a female. Diasemopsis (or Chaetodiopsis) meigenii is one of the most common species occuring from South Africa upto Arabia. Edited by Jan Willem on 26-04-2013 20:02 Jan Willem van Zuijlen |

Fourteen month deja-vu - thanks, Jan! I shall update the title accordingly. I suppose the differences in structure (thicker limbs, eyestalks) in the previous pictures (http://www.dipter...d_id=44508) are male/female variation, or just variability within the population? Thanks again, William. |
