These were taken at Erskine Harbour, Renfrewshire, on 24th July 2012. I am thinking it is Beris morrisii due to paleness of legs – hopefully there's enough angle on the face to separate from chalybata (even though pics are pretty dismal!)

the other one....would like to see the fly more laterally. Is the abdomen orange? Is it a Beris (the photo has been shot very late in the year) or rather a Chorisops, but then the legs are so dark. A pity Ben Brugge is not on line

yes, Ruud, I am keen to know what the second fly might be but I ruled out Chorisops due to the number of scutellum spines ... I counted at least seven. Is this not right? |

Check for Beris morrisii. I think the legs are far too pale for chalybata...

i am also fed up with it. When you look at the photos, you can't see very well how big the distance between the eyes. So, it is quite possible that it morrisii. I do not have too many in my collection! ruud van der weele rvanderweele@gmail.com |
