hi flyforum, These pictures where sent to me. Next to the big plumo's of this Chironomidae, it got huge mouthparts? (palps?) Is it common for Chironomidae? What is the function of this instrument? Only the females bite - males feed on flowers. This looks like the male of Culiseta annulata
