Hi


* locality - Silgueiros - Viseu - PORTUGAL
* date - 2007.10.13
* size - 8 mm (medium fly)
* habitat - farmland
* substrate - resting on a leaf of Citrus lemon.

Sargus sp.


EDIT---> Title changed from "Stratiomyidae - Sargus sp. Smile" to "Stratiomyidae - Chorisops sp." then to "Stratiomyidae - Chorisops tibialis"

This is Chorisops tibialis. The flight period for Sargus and Chorisops tends to be through the whole summer in Britain - in Portugal, they may avoid the the very driest time, so may be a bit later there. The only real autumn species is Sargus bipunctatus which regularly flies from August through to October.

In Hungary, I tend to see Chorisops in May and than in very late summer to September.
