This small fly was near Chicago attracted to some deposition on a fence. ~ 3/16". It was with the other striped flies that appeared to be Chloropids, only this one lacked the bright yellow on the pronotum. |

Yes, it is a chloropid. One of the group that are more typically like the true frit fly, Oscinellinae.
