This Muscina sp. (M. stabulans I suppose) was fallen in a pond (?)

Miguel Yuste rescued her and took the photographs not expecting this

She was full of mites? Mites and many other insects' larvae?
http://www.biodiv...49767.html

Itīs a pity; in case they were mites, they would be probably aquatic, so attacked her when she felt, but those smaller bugs? Maybe some larvae had attaked her before and thatīs why she felt on the water?

I think the big mites are Parasitiformes - commonly found as "hitchhikers" on insects which emerge from dung or compost. They are predatory, but are not eating the fly - just hanging on to get a ride to another site. There are more than usual on this fly - so that could be the reason she fell in the water. I think the smaller bugs are larval mites.
