Hi all,

I have photographed this rather (about 5mm) small fly yesterday on the surface of a forest pond.
Any idea of its identity?

Thanks for any help, cheers,

Thank you very much Nikita! Any idea of the species? Probably something common as unfortunately I do not leave in a hotspot :-)

It looks like it may be lacking pv bristles on the mid femora, in which case the brown notopleuron would suggest H. maura
