I have several morphotypes that I believe should correspond to distinct species. I could not find keys for European species in this genus. Would you have any references to start with?

I don't know how to identify European species. Even in North America I would have trouble.

The foundation of subgeneric classification is

Saunders, L. G. 1956. Revision of the genus Forcipomyia based on characters of all stages (Diptera, Ceratopogonidae). Canadian Journal of Zoology 34. doi:10.1139/z56-065

If you are lucky, you will find your specimens in a subgenus with few enough species to allow you to compare species descriptions.
