Hello, can this fly be identified to genus or species-level? Switzerland, Regensdorf, 08.06.2019.

Hi, I think it's a Linnaemya picta.

Hi Eric,

It is from Switzerland, so there are several similar options.

Hi Theo,

I've seen 8 species for Switzerland but I thought the Central Europe key led me to picta.
Such as Tibiae red, rear tergite 5 red, 1 pair of discal on t3 & t4, no black hairs on the gena...

What do you think?

Thank you and kind regards, Eric

I don’t have a definite opinion as long as I can’t assess the presence of black bristles on the back of the head.
If this one was from lowland Netherlands or Germany, I would not hesitate to call it picta with less than 5 % uncertainty.

Yes, and it's impossible to see here - so it would be wise to call it Linnaemya sp.

Thanks, Theo!

Greetings, Eric

Thank you very much Eric and Theo. Here the Linnaemya-species mentioned on the Swiss Diptera-checklist v1998.

Does this zoomed-in picture help to ID?
