on a meadow/forest edge in Vienna, late August.
Lipoptena cervi? About 3mm long

Definitely Lipoptena, but difficult to see whether it is cervi or fortisetosa and end August makes both possible. Can you please zoom in on the thorax and try to eliminate the annoying light reflection ? I need to see the bristles and hairs.

Very nice and very fortisetosa !!
This species has been introduced from the eastern Palaearctic region (long ago) and is now well established in Czeck republic.
Its host is Sika deer Cervus nippon, well established exotic deer in Europe.
Note that the periode of flight of fortisetosa is much earlier than L. cervi:
fortisetosa June - August
cervi August - October

Yes, you are totally right. Fortisetosa is noticably smaller than cervi.
