Took a photo of this beauty today, 21st August, 2020, in Pötzleinsdorf near Vienna.
This fly was really remarkable. The thorax was so reflective that I could not only see my ring flash and me on the surface, but also the trees nearby and the blue sky. This never gets boring.

Would really appreciate if anybody can identify it.

Thank you,

Mike

A female Chrysosomopsis. There used to be only one species in Europe, but unfortunately I am responsible for splitting it inti two, based on the male genitalia. And both species occur in Austria ....
