Few days ago, Israel.

I first was mistaken to this it is a Syrphidae fly but after a good look found it is actually a wasp.
Can anyone ID?

I can't see clearly enough but if the hairs have branches then it is a bee :)

Flattened tibia and metatarsa?... it's a bee. Apidae.

Hello!

Possibly genus Thyreus (?).

Thanks Juergen,
Looks like Thyreus :D there is another similar genus named Melecta but this one looks more like Thyreus.

Hello,

The specimen looks like T. ramosus, drawn on page 342 of the 5th volume of Amiet et al. But there may be other species in the east-mediterranean region.

hey pierred,
there are several known sp. in Israel:
Thyreus hyalinatus
Thyreus ramosellus
Thyreus ramosus
Thyreus tricuspis
Thyreus truncatus

According to map distribution I think also possible to find:
Thyreus affinis
Thyreus elegans
Thyreus histrionicus

ramosus indeed looks like mine, but I don't know the keys for the other species. Do you know which sp. from the list are for sure not the one in my phoho?

Hello,

I still don't know how to use the key efficiently. I can't help you more on this.

Thyreus is one of the 'diffult' genera, even for the few specialists.
