Hi,
found on 23-June-2018 Worms, Rhineland, Germany.
Near a nature reserve with cows...
It rested on a stone - it was so big I was stunned... in my mind approximately 3cm
Can it be further identified?
Many thanks and regards,
Stella

They look big, don’t they ? If you’d actually measure its length, head to tail, it is around 18- 19 mm.
Male Tabanus autumnalis.
T. sudeticus is even 40-50 % larger !
