They were reared from beech and oak deadwood branches in emergence traps in Basel Switzerland.

Could this 1.8 mm long Phorid be part of the Genus Metopina ?

Are they mycetophagous, saprophagous or zoopahgous?

Hello SandroM,

With such a bad photo the genus is impossible to determine.

Phoridae is a large Diptera family with one of the most diverse life habits. They are phytophagous, zoophagous, mycetophagous, (endo and ecto) parasitic, saprophagous and some more probably...

Kind regards,

Ectemnius

Are these pictures any better?
To deduce perhaps the genus and thus their larval life habitat?
Could they be Metopina species?

I do not think Metopina but if you manage to get a proper picture of the wing venation that can be confirmed.

Okay I tried to make some pictures of the wings. I hope they are good enough.

No sudden bend in the last longitudinal vein, so no Metopina
