Mid-October 2017, unfortunately I had not made a note of the size and habitat. I discovered the fly in Gronau, a town in the Münsterland near the Dutch border.

a very nice male Sturmia bella, the parasitoid of Nymphalidae.
Used to be very rare in NL (and Gronau :) ), but has become relatively common over the last de ennium.
A very late species (august - ...) as well demonstrated.
