Can Tipula confusa be excluded? That species is also abundant in the cold season. From the photos I've seen, the abdominal markings look different, but I don't know how variable that character is, nor what defines the species IDs in that subgenus.

In the diptera gallery, there is a report of T. rufina from December in GB, so it can be expected here as well - there were only few nights below 0°C this winter so far.
