Looks like a classic Asilidae, but can anyone help me find out which?

question: was it a large (15mm plus) or small (around 10mm) robberfly? That aids in identification!

You're quite right Mark, sorry, I usually do try and remember to add the dimensions. It was I'd say almost exactly 15 mm, Sarah
