I think these are soldier flies based on the antannal - look. Size in the 4mm range I would guess. Would like to confirm family and progress ID if possible. Photographed today. Town of Paternoster, Cape West Coast, South Africa, Sea level.

What about Nemotelus? Looks generally similar to these from the Diptera gallery I thought.

This is a female Cluninemotelus (Stratiomyidae). The genus has been synonymized by Woodley 2001 (the world catalog), with Nemotelus, but I think this is a valid genus, restricted to southern Africa.
