Hello, this is another little one <5mm with a very special behaviour: it shook and lifted and turned its little wings - and thus it reminded me of peacock fly behaviour, even though it did not do the whole wheel ;-) Can someone help who is this pretty little one?
Found on 17-August-2019 near Worms, Rhineland, Germany, in a nature reserve established in an old limestone quarry on an open meadow with many native flowers, thistles, centaurea, etc.
Many thanks and regards,
Stella

Hello Stella,

Sepsidae. Maybe Sepsis punctum?

Best wishes,
John

Sepsis sp. at best with these images. S. punctum most often has some orange near the base of the abdomen and nearly always has only one pair of dorsocentral setae. The former is clearly not the case, the latter cannot be discerned in the images.

Hi Paul,
many thanks, especially for the additonal info! Sometimes one has to let them go without a specific name... but its little show was nice to see... :-)
Best regards,
Stella
