Hi, I photographed this Cylindormyia specimen today at the Prater (huge park) in Vienna. I had identified c. auriceps found a couple of days ago in this forum, but today's specimen clearly looks different. Could it be C. brassicaria? Eckhart

Yes, thanks. Brassicaria is much bigger, like 14 - 16 mm.
This is the female of B. pusilla.

Theo, thanks a lot. Today I measured the flower the fly was sitting on, and it has approximately 9mm in diameter. So the fly may have about 8 mm, but most certainly not 14-16mm.
And - excuse my beginners' question - what is the B. in B. pusilla?
