Hi, I found this female on 2018-09-12 in my garden (Middle Franconia, near to an old forest).
I keyed it as Aedes japonicus - is it correct?
Thanks a lot!
Eric

Yes, this is
Aedes (or
Ochlerotatus or
Finlaya)
japonicus. Known in Southern Germany since 2011

Actually, it was discovered in Germany as early as 2008 and has since expanded its range northwards more than 600 km and it will be just a matter of time until these 'natural' populations reach the Netherlands. So far we have a few instances of introduced occurrence.

Thanks, Paul - and here's one who tries to save the Netherlands from too much mossies: Synema globosum, the Napoleon spider :) (2019-07-18 in the wood nearby)
