Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Heptatoma pellucens (Tabanidae)

I was very pleased to bag a new species for me the other day. It had me puzzled for a while -- looked like some sort of Tabanidae with Stratiomyidae antennae or something. Central lowland France. A trawl through the Diptera.info forum and gallery solved my problem and provided an ID.

Yes, often confused with Stratiomys longicornis.

The black-and-white legs are distinctive.

Here is another photo, taken today with a friend's equipment, better than mine. Sadly the eye stripes have faded by now.

Nice picture, but please consider to use a white background, makes it even so much nicer.
Simply a piece of white paper will do.
