Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Syrphidae? - No, Stratiomyidae, Odontomyia annulata

Hi,
this relatively big and brightly coloured fly has been attracted by the flowers of an Euonimus on our balcony near Bologna, Italy on June 24, 2019. From its flight (standing still in the air for a moment) I guess it might be a Syrphid, but as it is holding its wings closed when posed, I cannot check the veins.
When flying it looks surprisingly similar to an Anthidium bee which appeared more or less in the same period.
Can you please help me to identify it - thanks a lot.
