Dear all,

last saturday I found the following fly in a meadow in Berlin, Germany:

I somehow think it belongs to Bombylidae, but do not know why exactly I think this. It is more like a feeling.. Can you help me be clear and is it maybe possible to tlell somethink about the genus or species?

Best regards, Adrian

aha! i didn't read your post very well. I am also in Berlin and so far i have only found Lomatia lateralis but i cannot confirm the species in your photo as lateralis without genitalia. So Lomatia cf lateralis is better here.

..I just checked the species list for Berlin/Brandenburg from the ORION entomology society Berlin and it states Lomatia lateralis as only species recorded from that genus. So it might be quite sure. Thanks again

orion lists are not accurate. For example, i am publishing a confirmation on my website for Calliopum simillimum. I have verified its presence with genitalia for both male and female. C. simillimum is not in this list. I find alot of species missing from this list. My advice is to avoid orion altogether and check faunaeuropaea.
