Hi all! I am working on a research project at the Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Laboratory (SNARL) in Mammoth Lakes, CA that involves collecting adult aquatic insects as they emerge from local freshwater streams. Turns out that many of the specimens I have collected in the last few weeks are diptera. I am relatively new to identifying adult aquatic insects and thought this site would be a great resource for assistance in identifying some of the insects. I am preparing photos of the diptera I have collected, however unfortunately all of the photos are taken through the microscope and the quality isn't fantastic. I am hoping to identify to family at the least. I am happy to take additional photos for better resolution of certain body parts if necessary. Thank you in advance for the help!
The insects in photo I have attached are, I believe, Chironomidae. They are 3.85mm and 3.6mm in size. Confirmation on this identification would be much appreciated :)

PLease, try re-attaching images, as they do not show up in any of your threads. In necessary, check the FAQ (
https://diptera.i...p?cat_id=2). For example, previewing your post and then submitting it will not upload the image. And check the size requirements. ;)

Yes, they are Chironomidae, perhaps
