I found this fly - length about 6-7 mm - on 4th May 2019; on Acer campestre. Eastern Lower Saxony, Germany.

That's an interesting photo - not many Lonchaeidae have the combination of hairy eyes and silvered parafacials - I would think its
Lonchaea albigena an uncommon species ............. Iain
