Several of these flies were coming to Willow catkins near Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska on April 15, 2019. Most appeared to be eating and a few mating. I have been working on the value of willows and would really appreciate some identification help.

I can't see enough detail to be sure, but a muscoid fly on
Salix blossoms in early spring is probably
Egle.

Thanks so much John. It sure looks like photos of that genus. Apparently the larva develop in the female catkins -- have to look more closely.
