Hello,

a 4-5 mm male that visited the light in our garden (northwest Germany) some nights ago.

Difficult to get a good photo of the wing venation with these dark flies, so I am thinking that the hind tibia has lots of bristles, which suggests Anthomyiidae - generally fewer in Muscidae and Fanniidae.

Probably Egle. They feed on Salix pollen.

Thanks, John! I had taken photos of a small fly, which I tentatively identified as Egle sp., on Salix caprea flowers at the end of February, when we had nearly 19 °C here (but since two weeks the weather is rainy and stormy :|).
