Thanks Paul!. Nomina Insecta Nearctica lists one
Milichia species,
Milichia aethiops, but the Manual of the Nearctic Diptera says that’s a “southwestern” species.
I wish I had a lateral photo but the fly was on the other side of fence. I interpreted the bristles on the sides of the thorax as the ones MND says should be on the posterior anepisternum and that distinguish
Pholeomyia from
Milichia
