Here comes a remarkable
Hilara male from Austria, Niederthai (1.500 m), seen in August 2014. I hope we can get a group name at least - many thanks!

Could be a dark-legged
Hilara clavipes. Normally with yellow legs but at higher altitudes (1500 m is the mentioned altitude!) there is a dark-legged form.

That would be the first finding for Tyrol, if the species ID is more or less safe now.

That is very interesting - thank you so much, Paul and Lorin. As to the legs, coxae, trochanter and bases of femora are clearly yellow. The Norwegian
H. clavipes of
https://sporenbio...osts/51536 has also rather dark legs, so Paul is certainly right.
The species is listed for Austria in the Fauna Europaea, so where does it occur if not in Tyrol? Are there Diptera checklists for the states of Austria?

No Austrian checklist I know of. Chvála & Merz (2009) examined this Austrian material:
Austria: Styria: Haller Mauern, Natterriegel (about 1800 m) 22.vii. 1 female; Scheiplsee (= Scheibelsee) 30.vii. 1891, 1 male (all Strobl). Rottenmanner Tauern, Scheibelsee (1750 m) 6.vii.2002 1 male, 15.ix.2005 3 females; Schladminger Tauern, Innere Grosssölkertal (1200 m) 24.viii.2001 swarms (all Chvâla). Salzburgland: Gastein 5. ix. 1 female (Becker).
