#1
female heleomyzid found on an unseasonably warm winter day in an urban botanic garden. There are no caves in the area that I know of but there are water carrying culverts, etc. ~9mm to wingtips
This one keys out to
Amoebaleria defessa using the Manual of the Nearctic Diptera and Gill’s 1962 paper (Proceedings of the United States National Museum 113: 495-603). I know there’s some controversy over whether the proper genus name is
Amoebaleria or
Scoliocentra (or
Gymnomus for at least one species) but I’d appreciate someone with more expertise letting me know if I’m at least close to the right ID.
Thanks in advance for the help.
