Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Pretty fly on rabbit dung pellets, Chile. Anthomyiidae

This fly was visiting the small balls of rabbit dung. (Actually probably the dung of the introduced Euroepan Hare, which is now very common in Chile.)

My first thought was Scathophagidae, but then saw it wasn't very bristly.

The date was 17 December 2018, and the place was Punta Arenas, Chile. I didn't get a measurement, but the fly was small.

This one shows a ball of the dung of a rabbit/hare.

If it had spotted wings it could be in the Anthomyia punctipennis group, but the wings are clear.

Thanks, John. I'll put Anthomyiidae in the title and see if attracts any additional thoughts.

It sounds like maybe the best caption for the photo is Anthomyia sp.? Thank-you John and Nikita.
