Theo, I really don't remember, but not small for sure. And no more different angles, sorry.
Near a small pond where sheeps come across to drink.

The black antenna, shape of callus and lack of eyeband clearly indicate this is a large species.
On the second pic, the spots on abdomen are white. Also the shape is diagnostic:

female Tabanus rectus..

This is the first pic to my knowledge of a living animal showiing its eye colouration. Hence the fuss. Eye colouration is as in bovinus, contra sudeticus.

Very nice indeed.
