Hi,
This is a tiny Empis couple, seen in Berlin on 29th April. I suppose it is E. chioptera because of the size, the milky-white wings (with dark apical part of costa beyond R1) of the male and the brownish ones of the female, the large upper ommatidia of the male's eyes, swollen fore basitarsi, blackish halteres, and whitish pubescence of the abdomen (which seems to be the most important character to discriminate between the species of this group). Obviously there is only one pair of strong scutellar bristles. How certain is my identification?
Many thanks in advance, Sundew
