Generally I find that 4th instar claviger have a larger, more transverse central head spot, but I'm not sure that applies to younger larvae. As this one is only 5mm, I guess it could be an earlier instar, so we had best go with Anopheles sp. :)
On the other hand, the fact that this is a newly-built pond suggests it may be as yet unshaded, [Ira can tell us] in which case I think maculipennis complex is more likely to colonise. ;)
