Hello,

this fly puzzles me... I have only this photo from a distance of 3 m or so. It was not small, maybe 10-12 mm, but I have no idea, what it could be. Is it possible to tell the family at least?
Found on a fallow by a small creek today (northwest Germany).

Conops quadrifasciatus, I’d say.

ok, that's very likely ;). There are many of them around these days. Don't know, why I did not recognize this one from the frontal perspective.

Thanks a lot!

But ... the first two new ones don’t seem right. Look more like flavipes.

ah, yes. The colour of the legs and the narrower stripes on the abdomen resemble more C. flavipes. That species is not as abundant here as quadrifasciatus, but I had one in mid July, also in our courtyard.

Thanks for your attention!
