This female Loewia from Orkney last week keys out to phaeoptera, but I see there is also erecta to consider. I have no experience of any Loewia, so can I get confirmation that I am in the right area and any thoughts on the ID? The scutellar dorsal bristles are prone and the eye hairs are fairly sparse and about the width of the aristal base.

Looking at a key from 2007 by Bergstrom, I wonder whether the setae on T4 and 5 suggest erecta?

using keys from Tschorsnig, i also arrive at L. phaeoptera

I have a document from Bergstrom and i think that the abdomen matches L. phaeoptera not the paratype L. erecta.

wait for Theo's opinion but i think that you are correct with L. phaeoptera.

Thanks, John and Nini...appreciate your time on this. I suspect phaeoptera is right...I just wondered about erecta as the location is way further north than other records in the UK.
