Even with regard to family this nice specimen leaves me clueless.
Suggestions are highly appreciated.
Location: vicinity of Groningen (Saramacca, Suriname)

I think it's in former tribe Trichopodini, now considered part of Gymnosomatini (family Tachinidae, subfamily Phasiinae).

Hi John,
Thanks for putting me on track. Browsing through the Gymnosomatini images I find on the web, I arrive at Xanthomelanodes.
I haven’t found any reliable info regarding its presence in Suriname, but it is in Guyana, so chances are its range includes Suriname as well.

The tropical Trichopoda group is being revised, or was revised recently, and I don't know the new classification.
