On the 15th of August I again spotted Cheilosia caerulescens in our garden. With not such an appropriate camera I went after it and took some pictures when it was ovipositing on Sempervivum tectorum.

Not on the picture are some leaves that were dry and hollow and may have been mined by the generation to which this females belonged. Already in June this species seemed to favour the Sempervivum but I did not witness any oviposition then.

Very nice pictures Paul! Ovipositing is not seen that often. Ch. caerulescens is species, because it is a garden hoverfly in the Netherlands.
