Berlin - May 2018

I found a few of these small insects running around the base of a young birch tree at a local park. I was trying to photograph them and i managed to get one photo before i was rudely interrupted by a free roaming dog. I was very frustrated, so i left the area. I really hate it when people disobey the 'all dogs on a leash' signs.

Anyway, i will see if i can find them again. I have no idea of a family. Hopefully someone can recognize it.

Thank you for your time.

Hello and Thank You very much, Jan. I appreciate your time. I have no knowledge of this family whatsoever, thus, it is nice to find something new. I will read more about Hybotidae today.

Hello Jürgen, Thank You for the tip. I will try to find them again to make better photos. I've not seen these before. I think that they were mating. I'll check with Tachypeza nubila when i find them again. I appreciate your time.

Hello,

Tachypeza nubila is the most frequent Hybotidae here in our garden at tree trunk and walls.

Hello Jürgen, i think that Tachypeza is correct and nubila is most likely the species but i want to be certain of the species. I will examine a specimen before i give it a name to be sure that it isn't one of the other three listed for Germany. I've seen your post about this species: https://diptera.i...d_id=10343

I have to apologize for the quoted statements because they are false. I found a Platypalpus species last year. I have yet to examine it. I suppose i just forgot about this family. sorry.
