11.5mm - May 2018 - Berlin, DE

found this on my balcony. it is missing legs and it is quite dirty.
i have very little experience with Nematocera and zero references.
can we get a family and genus for this?

Male Nephrotoma -- relatively shiny, yellow or black Tipulidae s. str. with short basal section of Rs and three veins from discal cell.

Can I recommend the following site?

Click on Literature and fill in Nephrotoma as the title. Then ENTER.

The first link is in Dutch but gives a table for all the species in the Netherlands and Belgium. Maybe with a little help from Google Translate??

I have no problem reading and understanding Nederlands. I learned the language many years ago. I don't speak it or write it very often but I have a solid understanding of it. I have an electronic copy of Van Dale Groot Woordenboek Van De Nederlandse Taal.

I looked at the pdf from Oosterbroek and so far the best match is Nephrotoma submaculosa. I am happy to have some keys to Tipulidae. Thank You all very much.

I will look at this specimen under the microscope to confirm. Not today but soon.
