Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Lonchaeidae ?

Aywaille (Belgium) 24/3/2018 on a trunc of Betula pendula. About 3,5-4 mm.

Is it a Lonchaeidae ?

I'd say Anthomyiidae (anal vein reaches wing margin) - possibly Egle, as mouthparts look quite protruding, and it's early in the season.

Yes, it looks like Egle, but isn't it too small for this genus (and for this family ...). The size was measured, not only estimated.

Most species of Egle are in the Egle minuta section (sensu Griffiths, 2003) with wing length typically 3-4 mm.
