The fly is from Hong Kong. Is it a Stomorhina species? Grateful for its identification.

Yes, i'd say it is, but I don't recognize the species. Need to work on that.

I have never seen such eye bands in Stomorhina !

It seems to key out to S. lunata, but that is mot right.
So let’s start to be sure on the genus.

Could you check the hairs onthe arista ?
Only dorsal present, ventral bare ??

The characteristic bandings on the eys are seen only in fresh specimen. The same fly, after put in storage for two weeks or so, lost all its eye bandings.

The following Stomorhina spp. have been reported from HK before. Hope it can help to narrow down your checking.

S. lunata
S. obsoleta
