Berlin - May

don't remember details and I only have this photo.

I thought it to be a Tachinid but the eyes are large and I don't remember any Tachinids that look like this other than Rondania and Phania. I'd like to place it in a Family and I am hopeful for a genus.

Thank You for your Time :)

Phania funesta, I'd say

interesting, Paul. I am confused now. I dissected a male last month and I think that it looks different. I think that I must re-evaluate my determination. I'll have to look at my photos ...

I may end up making a new post :)

I think this is a male, because of the narrow frons... The female has a long ovipositor that is curved underneath the abdomen.

here is a photo also from May of a male fly which I have recently determined to be Phania funesta. I think that this fly does not look like the one in question here. So either my determination is incorrect or this fly of this post is not Phania funesta.

edit: or they are both Phania funesta. The eyes look different but I am not an expert :)

Well, we defenitely have true tachinid specialists here that can set me right. :)

Very few members id by genitalia so I will just have to re-key my dissected specimen. Regarding the species in question: I only have one photo, so I will just accept it as a Tachinid. I think that a genus is not possible. Thank You very much Paul. I truly appreciate you. Maybe I can find it again next year.
