Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Syrphidae----> Episyrphus balteatus?

Photographed in Bergen,Norway today.
Is it possible to get an ID on this hoverfly? The thorax looks similar to Episyrphus balteatus, but the rest of the fly don´t look like any of the E. balteatus I ever seen before....

Hello,
surely
Episyrphus balteatus. Such coloured individuals can appear when it is too cold during development.

Thanks a lot for the answer, Jürgen. It has been colder here in Bergen than it has been for many, many years, so maby I find more of this dark E.balteatus.

It is a so-called intersex (frons width intermediate between male and female; no normally structured genitalia [eitehr male or female]), which usually are much darker than ordinary specimens.
