I found this bee-fly on the edge of a reservoir near to Marbella, Spain this July. It looks similar to Hemipenthes velutina so I am asking is it this species please or something similar or undeterminable to species from this image [specimen not retained unfortunately].
Embalse del Guadalmina, BenahavĂs, AndalucĂa, Spain. 2017-07-01.
Many thanks,
Steve.

looks alot like
Hemipenthes velutina to me but I am not familiar with all of the Spanish species. Piluca is from Spain and should be able to eliminate any competitors faster. If Piluca doesn't reply, then I will do some research for you...

Brilliant! Many thanks Piluca and John. Sorry for the delayed reply. I thought I was set up for email notifications of replies - but obviously not! ;)
