Thread subject: Diptera.info :: pond fly = Dichaeta caudata

Found this fly on a fastfood packet in a pond. I didn't get very nice photos because I had to lean over the water and hold the camera away from my body. Otherwise, I fall into the pond ruining my expensive equipment :o

Anyway, I have no idea where to begin with this one. A family will be nice.

I would say Dichaeta caudata (Ephydridae)

I'm not amazed that you recognize it so easily. You are an impressive individual. I have no idea how you learned to id families so quickly but you are definitely a top notch dipterist. I've mentioned it before. Tony Irwin and John Carr are an amazing tag team.

Thank You. And caudata is the only Dichaeta supposed to be in Deutschland.
