I stand by my opinion that it is a Villa species. I think that it matches the description of Villa cingulum in Meigen 1820.

I cannot find descriptions for Villa cebalosi and Villa fasciculata. But I doubt that it is either one of these.

I will say Villa cf. cingulum. maybe someone else has a different opinion?

I am a bit jealous of your photo :) very nice photo of a rarely photographed Villa.


edit: I only state cf (confer) because I prefer genitalia for a 100% identification. I certainly label this as Villa cingulum in my own work. I strive to be a Bombyliidae expert someday I need several years before I can reach such a level of expertise. Until then, I recommend cf for now.
