Hi,
I found this fly mid june 2014 in Hamburg yet I have not been able to identify it despite its remarkable features.
However I did check the forum first and found this thread: https://diptera.i...d_id=14104
I'm pretty sure it's the same species. It's also mid June and northern germany. The fly was then identified as Poecilobothrus sp. Still I just can't fit any species. All Poecilobothrus sp. I found look significantly different.
Best Regards,
Jan

Ethiromyia chalybea?

Thanks a lot. It must be Ethiromyia chalybea. This was my "working name" for him anyways. But I had him marked as weak ID. And after failing with two keys and not finding any proper pictures of males except the one linked identified to Poecilobothrus I put him up here. The bristles on the hind tibia looked conspicious to me. Also the black/blue color - I couldn't believe they wouldn't be mentioned in the keys. Seems also the hind tibia isn't that conspicious in the females?
Only now I found also this guy: https://diptera.i...d_id=69467. No idea why I missed him the last time. I searched for hours.
Best Regards,
Jan
